The palm is reinforced because leather wears through where it grips a ski pole. The TPU membrane sits between the shell and the lining because that's where it blocks moisture without adding bulk.
The wrist strap is adjustable because a fixed strap either slides or digs in — and a loose wrist means cold air reaches the fingers on the chairlift, where hands get coldest.
